Legend of the Selkie

Almost entirely instrumental.  The tunes include songs commissioned by the Kinetics Dance Theatre, Ellicott City, Maryland.  Jared composed tracks 1 through 7 for their  original score in dance of the "Legend of the Selkie".

Other tracks are traditional Celtic tunes presented in original arrangements. There is a sonata of three O'Carolan tunes.

Jared's  song  "The Stolen Child,"  is a poem by W.B. Yeats  featuring Jared Denhard playing the Celtic harp and highland pipes' Nancy Stagnitta, flute, Mimi Papp, violin; Tom Ginsburg, violin and viola; Tim Anderson, cello; and  vocalist Harper Denhard  on "The Stolen Child"

On his new release, Idylls of the King, Jared Denhard combines the ancient and evocative voices of the Celtic harp, flute, highland pipes, Scottish smallpipes,panpipes and renaissance recorders to create a musical style based on Celtic and medieval traditions, inspired by the archetypes of Arthurian legend.

From the melancholy opening movement, The Lake Isle, to the driving urgency of Caerleon and the ethereal distant piping of the final Piobaireachd, the music explores the moods and landscapes of the Arthurian cycle.

By blending some of the the most primal elements and sounds of our collective memory, and by striving to find contemporary meaning in the echoes of the past, Idylls of the King offers a richly varied interpretation of these enduring legends.

Also available is Jared's 1997 release, Canterbury Suite, which features his his colorful musical interpretations of Chaucer's characters from the prologue to the Canterbury Tales.
